Airlines Not Choosy About Losing Luggage

If you think the airlines only lose luggage belonging to the “Average Joe”, guess again. Just ask the six American-based professional golfers whose luggage was recently lost by the airlines when flying to Carnoustie, Scotland to play in the British Open. According to the July 2007 Air Travel Consumer Report issued by the US Department of Transportation, in May 2007, airlines mishandled 5.93 bags per 1000 passengers; a 25.2% increase over May 2006. Add that on top of other issues such as heightened security measures, long luggage check-in lines and an increase in the number of mishandled bags, and you have a lot of frustrated travelers on your hands.
