from: Prevent Airline Luggage Woes - Make Your Luggage Unique

Prevent Airline Luggage Woes - Make Your Luggage Unique
By Alina Ranee

I used to travel by air a lot as a journalist/feature writer and would like to relate three experiences with "lost luggage" so that other travellers can learn from them.

First, on arrival at the airport after an overseas trip one day I accidentally took a suitcase that looked exactly like mine. I was in a hurry and did not bother to check the baggage tag against the counterfoil they had stapled to my ticket. Since I went through the "Green Lane" I did not have to open my luggage so I was unaware of my mistake. I was waiting at the taxi stand when an exasperated fellow traveller accosted me and demanded what I was doing with his luggage. After sorting out the mistake we both parted amicably. That incident made me aware of the need to make my suitcase easily identifiable as mine.

Second, on one trip to India my luggage went astray to Madras while I was in Mumbai. I was "clothes-less" for three days until they finally delivered my luggage to me. That experience made me aware of packing essential stuff in my carry-on bag.

Third, my fellow photographer on an assignment to Madrid in wintry weather had packed his jacket in the check-in luggage -- which arrived only five days later. He was forced to borrow a jacket because he did not want to buy a new one.

BOXX electric scooter looks sort of like a rideable suitcase

Oregon-based BOXX's first production electric scooter is just about a meter (39 inches) long and looks like an odd sort of cross between a piece of retro luggage and a giant-sized camera. It promises to move you up to 80 miles on a single charge at a top speed of 35 mph (56 km/h) and comes with a price tag starting just under US$4,000... If you can’t wait for “ Mad Men ” and Jon Hamm ’s face to get back on the air March 25, whet your appetite with “The Unofficial Mad Men Cookbook” (Smart Pop, $16.95), a guide to the food and drinks featured in the retro AMC hit. It takes home cooks back to the culinary world of 1960s America. There aren’t recipes for steak and potatoes and Jell-O, people. Many, like steak tartare, come from ...

With a Licence to Splurge

Fahrenheit 88 Mall at night MANILA, Philippines — "I don’t just buy. I shop!” Succinct with a single lofty lift of the eyebrow is how I would usually justify a 12-hour jaunt to the mall with no shopping bags— not even a teeny weeny plastic— to show for after. If you’re completely lost in the semantics, then you’re either a man (who couldn’t care less) or a bargain-hunting greenhorn.
